Uponor launches labor-saving ProPEX® EP reducing tees series

Offering 10 different configurations, new fitting series aims to cut costs and boost productivity by eliminating the time-consuming task of composing tees on the job site

APPLE VALLEY, MINN (JAN. 21, 2020)A significant number of all pipe connections on commercial job sites are composed tees. Taking the time to create these tees increases labor costs, while undercutting installation efficiencies. A new series of ProPEX® engineered polymer (EP) reducing tees from Uponor North America allows system designers and installers to eliminate these costly, time-consuming connections to better meet tight project deadlines and keep schedules on track.

Designed for residential and commercial plumbing and hydronic applications, Uponor’s new reducing tees streamline installations by eliminating unnecessary connections when joining pipes of various diameters. A single reducing tee will do the job of a composed tee made of several different components (tee, rings, and reducing couplings), sharply cutting the time and labor needed to make the connection. (See illustration on the next page.)

The new series consists of 10 different reducing tees in a variety of outlet configurations, from ½” to 2″ in diameter — the sizes most in demand, based on recent field research by Uponor. Made of a highly durable and reliable engineered polymer, these fittings will resist corrosion, withstand thousands of pounds of force, and handle the high temperatures found on many commercial projects.

With the introduction of these 10 new tees, which supplement Uponor’s current ProPEX EP reducing tees portfolio, the company remains the industry’s largest provider of ASTM F1960 EP fittings and multiports — all backed by a 25-year transferable limited warranty.

“These new tees provide a solution for what our customers describe as a significant job-site challenge,” said Doug Fulton, vice president, Product Marketing and Business Development, Uponor North America. “Through this new offering, we’re confident professional plumbing and mechanical installers will make pipe connections faster and more efficiently, helping them save both time and money.” Fulton went on to say that specifying engineers will see benefits as well.

“Fewer connections boost pipe system performance by not only shrinking installation time and expense, but also reducing the liability of potential leak sources. Plus, Uponor’s engineered polymer is manufactured from the same material used by the biomedical and aerospace industries for decades, so engineers can feel confident in a product made to last the life of the structure.”

Fulton added that the cost of a single ProPEX reducing tee is roughly equivalent to the combined expense of the various components formerly needed to make that same connection.

Uponor ProPEX EP reducing tees comply with all applicable standards: ASTM F877, ASTM F1960, and CSA B137; NSF/ANSI 14, 61, and 372; and ASTM E84, E119, and E814. The tees are listed for both potable water and hydronic applications; carry the same hydrostatic temperature and pressure ratings as the overall Uponor PEX piping system; and select fittings carry the UL1821 fire listing.

All of these tees carry the same hydrostatic temperature and pressure ratings as the overall Uponor PEX piping system.

“There continues to be an ever-increasing need for smart PEX piping solutions,” says Fulton. “Our new EP reducing tees give pipe system designers and installers more options for incorporating the benefits of the ASTM F1960 PEX expansion system into their projects: fewer connections, no hot work or chemicals, no dry fits, and faster and easier installs that limit their project liability and increase their productivity.”
